Vollers will be performing the site work associated with the Phoenixville Area School District Early Learning Center project. This project includes the construction of a new school building and six new athletic fields.
What impact does this project have on America?
This project will be providing the Phoenixville Area School District with much needed space and more modern facilities. Many school district in southeastern Pennsylvania are in the process of either expanding or rebuilding their facilities. This project will also add more space for youth sports.
What interesting obstacles or unusual circumstances did you overcome to complete the project?
This site is very large and requires a huge amount of earthwork. Our biggest challenge thus far has been moving this dirt quick enough to keep up with the project schedule. To date, we have been very successful with this task.
What dangers and risks did you encounter, and describe any extraordinary methods used to keep workers safe?
The sanitary lateral that will service the new school runs directly down the center of an adjacent roadway. At its deepest, the pipeline is 18 feet deep. In order to keep our workers and motorists safe, we have to shut down the road completely. This is has been a lengthy and arduous process for all involved. We have had to work with the school district, the police department, the fire department, PennDOT, and the township in order to get this done. Although it has been difficult, this is the only way to quickly and safely complete this work.
How did you leverage new technologies to work faster and reduce waste?
Utilizing GPS equipment has made a huge difference for our company. We use both hand-held and machine-mounted GPS equipment for quick layout and simple grade checks. As a site contractor, the speed and accuracy that modern GPS equipment provides is an enormous help.
